MINISTERS OF care

St. Dominic Mission is here to help When a parishioner is in need of a caring visit, a Get-Well card, communion brought to their home, or to make arrangements for an anointing, please call Joanne Wamer. We have wonderful volunteers who are ready to extend a caring connection with those they visit.  Hopefully, by keeping us in the “loop” we can do a better job of ministering to our parish family.

Bereavement Ministry

As a mission church, we are happy to offer our own personal service to help parishioners plan for the memorial Mass or service for their loved ones.  After receiving notice of a death, we will contact the family and meet with them to find out just how we can help them.  We make arrangements for securing the church, a priest to preside, music, etc.  We have a list of resources for use to complete the plans.

Communion to the Homebound

If you are homebound or know of a Catholic neighbor or friend who is homebound, we have a Ministry that will bring communion.

Caring Connection

Whether homebound or hospitalized, if you are in need of a caring visit, a get well card, or communion brought to your home, or arrange an anointing by a priest, please contact  a Minister of Care Parish Representative.  We have wonderful volunteers who are ready to extend a caring connection with those they visit.  Hopefully, by keeping us in the “loop” we can do a better job of ministering to our parish family.

Lap Robe Ministry

If you have the talent, we have the yarn and patterns.  New yarn has been received for our knitters of lap robes which are blessed and then distributed during our Caring Connection Ministry visits.  Members knit or crochet lap robes (28x30 inches) which are given to those who are ill or have suffered a family member death.  As you knit or crochet, you are asked to pray for the recipient of the lap robe. Once the lap robes are completed, each is blessed by one of our priests. For more information or for patterns and yarn, contact the Joanne Wamer.

Mass Intensions

At the beginning of Mass, we are asked to pray as a community for a particular request.  Throughout the Mass, keep in mind that the power of the Eucharist is great and together our voices rise to be heard.  Mass intentions can be in honor of a person, living or dead, in thanksgiving for a gift from our Lord, for the blessing and praise of life itself.

Prayer Ministry

The best gift anyone can give to another is to pray for him or her.  We may ask – why does God want us to pray for others?  Because intercessory prayer reflects God’s own character of outgoing love and mercy.  God want us to think like he does, and praying for others helps us to think beyond ourselves and to grow in compassion for others.  Here at St. Dominic Mission, there are over 50 people who wish to be contacted when there is a need or concern for prayer.  The Prayer Chain at the Community Church also prays with us.  If you would like to join us in praying for other’s needs, all you need to do is call Judi Seguy and you too may become a minister of prayer in your daily life.  Prayer requests are received by email and confidentiality is all that is asked.

Medical Equipment Ministry

Medical equipment continues to be available to the Verde communities for temporary use.  Items are stored in the Alexander Building (next to the Fire Station) on the corner of Forest Road and Avenida Del Ray.  Access is through the VerdeCares office door and during their weekday office hours, VerdeCares personnel will assist you in obtaining items.  St. Dominic Mission is very thankful for all the help VerdeCares provides for this program.

At other times, if you need equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, etc. throughout the year, contact the person(s) listed as monthly contacts in our weekly bulletin.  Volunteers serve monthly as contacts to obtain or return items. This program continues primarily because of donations of no-longer-needed items from area residents. There is no charge for use of the equipment. If you have equipment to donate, please let us know. We will use it to “add to” or “replace” current stock.  If you have borrowed Medical Equipment and are no longer in need of it, please contact Jim Urban.
